The Minneapolis College of Art and Design held an all school show at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year. The show was named
Dear President Blank. Each student was given allowed to submit a piece with a message to the next president that was no bigger than 8.5" x 11" x 1". Because these pieces were made before the actual President was elected, the prompt encouraged students to voice their concerns or messages without bias. At the end of the show, each piece was mailed to the next Presidsent (barack Obama). Whether he'll even look at them or not, we'll never know.
This is my peice. I made a resin casted paperweight. Inside of the resin lies a dollar bill with the words
fix me cut away from it and placed behind it on a previous layer of resin. It displays an obvious message towards the economy, but when one examines it closer they'll notice that (when held to the light) the
i is missing. By doing this I've tried to make a statement on the greed and self-worth that comes along with the ownership of money. It was a fun project to do, and let me work with a new medium.
