February 7, 2009, Minneapolis College of Art and Design Honored Kinji Akagawa (a long time professor and friend to MCAD) at the Mill City Museum. The ticketed event consisted of a silent auction, food, alumni, family, students, speeches, and a performance directed by Ann Hamilton and Michael Mercil. The performance was a half hour reading by Ann, Michael, and eight MCAD students/alumni (including myself). I was given the opportunity to perform in this and I feel very blessed. The performance was very exciting. Each artist in the room (that means everyone) was given a script to be a part of it and read along. Each of the eight MCAD performers were also wearing question mark hats that we had made the night before. I was able to meet Ann and Michael and they are two of the nicest people I've ever met. Here are some artifiacts I collected from our performance. Photos from the event can be seen here, courtesy of Erin Nicole Johnson.
