This piece is a resurrection of a found object. During my job as a shop technician at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, I was given the chance to strip out and remove a kiln. I had to remove around 300 pounds of bricks, 5 huge sheets of ceramic fiber, and various steel fixtures. At the bottom of the whole kiln, underneath all of the mess I found this beautiful circular kiln floor. It has been through 20 years of kiln firings, and represents the life and times that this kiln has gone through. Ceramics has been a huge part in my life and this is a sort of memorial for me. On the back of the two pieces are large wall brackets and a bumper for the piece to hang parallel to the wall. I'm very happy with how this turned out.
